Since its founding in 1890, the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has dedicated itself to historical preservation, education, and patriotism.

In terms of historical preservation, DAR restores and maintains historical sites and also locates and maintains Revolutionary War patriot gravestones and headstones. The group also organizes and contributes to major restoration projects and memorials and preserves genealogical records and historical documents, which are available to the public at DAR headquarters.

DAR also supports six schools through chapter and member donations and provides scholarships and financial support to Native American children and schools. It also offers scholarships across the nation and educational programming through the Children of the American Revolution and Junior American Citizens.

To encourage patriotism, DAR members contribute more than 200,000 hours to Veterans’ Administration hospitals annually and support overseas service members with care packages. They also contribute their time to naturalization ceremonies and present awards to deserving individuals.
